“Ship of Heroes” Approaches Kickstarter with Unprecedented Progress using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 (UE4)

Mar 23, 2017

Ship of Heroes has shown more playable game elements pre-Kickstarter than any other game in its genre using the streamlined rendering and animation tools of Unreal Engine

State College, March XX, 2017 – Heroic Games is using the power of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to break new ground, showing more fully integrated game elements than any other MMO in the Superhero and Space genres, prior to Kickstarter.  An impressive feat for the agile development team’s flagship project, made possible through the application of careful project management, flexible dispersed collaboration, and the use of the best tools available on the market, Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.

“Epic Games is excited that Ship of Heroes is being built using Unreal Engine 4.  Ship of Heroes is developing quickly and we look forward to having another MMO in the market based on our technology, and the community of artists and coders that utilize it,” Joe Kreiner, Director Business Development for Unreal Engine of Epic Games said.

With just a year of development, Ship of Heroes has followed its original timeline and met its milestones each step of the way.  In the interest of complete transparency, they have shared key elements such as game world lore, a video tour of the base level Apotheosis City, a video overview of the ship, a video demo of the Character Creator, the User Interface, background and development for key NPCs, and then a powers/combat demo, all shown in game in Unreal Engine 4.  Each new update fits with the lore and contains the previous elements, all building toward a playable Alpha.  “The critical thing about early stage MMO development is that every component that gets developed needs to be fully integrated with all of the previous elements in order to demonstrate real progress,” said CEO Casey McGeever.  “Unreal Engine 4 makes that possible.”

“Ship of Heroes is drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of MMORPGs, but made more dynamic and more quickly brought to market using the best tools available today,” Casey McGeever, CEO of Heroic Games said. “The secret of our unprecedented progress has been the application of project management principles, use of the best development platform available with Unreal Engine 4, and a dedication to making every element reveal the larger game.”

The Ship of Heroes Kickstarter begins April 4th, 2017.  A series of increasingly complex Alpha tests will also be conducted in late 2017 and early 2018.  Participants for the Alpha tests will also be drawn from the donors to the Kickstarter.  Beta release is currently anticipated for late 2018, through crowdfunding can impact the schedule.

As an MMORPG, Ship of Heroes seeks to return to the feel and playstyle of classic MMOs of the past, but it is being built with advanced graphics using the leading-edge Unreal Engine 4 by Epic Games.  The developers are building an immersive, intense gaming experience with a strong team element and a sense of family-friendly community, structuring the game to deliver a social experience for players rather than a once-through content exposure.

Other Kickstarter rewards will be announced as April 4th approaches, but to get the latest news on Ship of Heroes and their imminent Kickstarter campaign, register for the forums on www.ShipofHeroes.com.
