New Character Faces for Heroes

Dec 13, 2022

The Ship of Heroes character creator (CCT) offers an amazing depth of customization. You can readily create unique characters using face and body morphs, and through a mix-and-match costume system. And now you’ll have access to beautiful presets to start from without losing any of the freedom of the CCT’s morphs.

Before, all preset faces were displayed with the same default settings that did not highlight the unique potential of each face. Now the CCT includes 114 distinct head presets with hair, eyes, eyebrows, and lipstick or facial hair, so each one is a unique and interesting person.

These preset looks can easily be altered with a few simple changes such as hair style, hair color, skin color, eye color, eyebrows, or facial hair.

Variations on the same preset face. So many possibilities!

“It has been fun to see the variety of beautiful looks that can be created with the CCT. Most surprising is how all the prominent features of the head, hair, eyes, eyebrows, skin color, can be switched to almost anything on any head and deliver other beautiful but distinct looks.”

Five of many possible variations from a single preset face

To create a completely new look, you can harness the power of morphs from any preset appearance radically altering it.

“No… No… Definitely not… That’s good, but still not quite right… Ooh, I like that one!”

For those who do not enjoy manually  perfecting the look of their character, creating a character with randomizers is the answer. Randomizers were first revealed in October 2019. Our randomizers now take presets into account to generate better random combinations.  Spend exactly as much time as you want on creating a cool hero!

Of course, the head is not the only thing players can customize. The height, silhouette and body types can also be changed through a variety of powerful morphs.  A costume composed of up to seven pieces that can be mixed and matched will complete your unique look. Each piece can be recolored with multiple colors.

We’ve always had a strong character creation tool; now we’re polishing it to be launch-ready.  In the next few months, you can expect upgrades to other aspects of the game, as well as a Steam store page.  We’re eager to show off some of the new mission maps, world locations, NPCs, and the deep, engaging story that makes Ship of Heroes so exciting to explore.  Stay tuned!

“Heroes often wear bold colors, and not just for style. When enemies can’t look away, that gives civilians more time to flee.” – history textbook

Technical Notes

  • In Ship of Heroes, there is no connection at all between the look or appearance of your character and their powers, archetype, or stats. You are in control of the story of your character. Want to make a hulking, armored healer, or a tiny Tanker? You can, and people will admire your creativity.
  • Looks and costume files can be saved and people will admire your creativity.
  • A character can have an entire wardrobe of costumes and switch between them.
  • We have nearly doubled the number of costume pieces recently,  including access to more civilian clothes.
  • You can write your character story to be viewed by other players in-game.
  • You can change your character’s look, costume, and story at any point without losing progress or resources.

Our Unusual Story

Our Unusual Story

In Ship of Heroes you can write your own short backstory for the unique character you create, which other players can read and enjoy. Your personal story will tie into the larger stories of the FHS Justice and the various planets as you explore them, so let’s talk about the setting, dialog, and themes of Ship of Heroes. We haven’t covered this subject much, though you may have seen pieces of the story in our public events and Betas.
