The survey responses that we received (hundreds of them) are really very interesting, and some of the answers to the questions are really detailed. One thing that jumps out at me personally is that players have experience in many MMOs, and in some of those games they do not have a hierarchy of mission content like we are creating: regular missions, challenge missions, task forces, seasonal content, and raids. For some respondents a task force is a raid. For a few, ten players pursuing a shared mission objective is a sort of raid. But we know that we can have raids in the open-world environment of the Hazard Zone, for instance, with 60+ heroes and lots of enemies and keep the FPS pretty high (40-60 FPS in the middle of the fight).

We also want to have some raids that are accessible to lowbies, and in which the lowbies can actually contribute meaningfully. This is a design challenge, but we see some ways to make it happen.

For me, raids should be the epic content. They're the big missions, they should *feel* epic. Space opera is probably my favourite genre because space truly is the biggest thing around, and you have the perfect setting in two ways:

1. From a game point of view, a sense of epic _scale_

Hordes of enemies, larger than normal enemies, epic temporary powers that have impressive effects, massive settings or crazy-powerful science. Whatever the engine can handle. You're in space. Use it.

2. From the setting point of view, a sense of epic _stakes_

I'm a hero. The most heroic moments are when everything is on the line. Not just a few civilians, or a city, but an entire ship, moon, plant, species. Give us opportunities to destroy a death-star equivalent or prevent a villain from inventing time-travel and wiping out an entire race of aliens. Again, obviously whatever is doable within the engine, budget, etc. but, pun fully-intended, I want to see raids reaching for the stars 🙂

In both senses, I want to feel like part of something bigger than just my hero. This should the "Avengers: Endgame" type content. Bring in NPCs. Reference the wider world. Draw out the horizon and really connect the raid with the full breadth of your setting.

Agree with your arguments but we need to consider that every epic event with everything on the line becomes routine if it appears too often or regulary.
I think to make such kind of raids really special you need to place them random. So no matter where you are, what you are doing or what you´re planning to do: If the rare raid message appears everyone will throw his plans overboard just to be part of this truly epic event. This would be exciting.
I hope you all get my point.

The small 10 player raid

I would like to have a raid that has to be earned either by fullfilling a quest-line or by getting it completely by random.

For example if a player completes a quest and is getting a special reward like a portal device.
The portal device opens up a portal to another place/dimension/planet whatever. Behind this portal the raid will take place.
But the player has to organize 10 other players and form a team to activate the portal device. It only would work if the "activator" is in a full 10 player team.

This would support social interaction in the game. You can find new friends, form new supergroups and it won´t get boring like an always recurring raid event.

Also if you can´t find 9 other players you could keep the portal device in your inventory or bank slot.

Agree 100% 👍👍🤴⭐

What you are describing are invasions. Those are a lot of fun, and we have those too.

100% agree Integral. Invasions would be another great addition. Maybe even as part of a Seasonal Mission Alert?

Raids... 1. Number of Players in them? Max Raid Heroes gets pretty shaky with 10+ players on the team. Recommended Max Heroes to be 8. Why? In my experience it is easier to maintain communications, and Pair up to help one another beat the Raid.
2. Mapping and NPC enemies? Different Mapping for each NPC Class being Raided. With a special Ultra Raid, where all NPC bad guys team up against the Heroes on the City Map.
3. Timed? Larger the NPC count, the longer the timer should be. Between 10 to 90 minutes max maybe?
4. Rewards? This is going to be a tad tricky... One-Time-Reward for Individual Characters, and/or Account. Supplemented by 2-6 Standard Drop Rewards at end, or throughout, on Special Boss Defeats.
5. Off Ship Raids Instances? Board Shuttle and Raid a NPC Ship in Space that has been attacking/annoying the F.H.S. Justice. Also Planetary, Moon, and Space Station Raids. Of course these will drive the Art Department and Mission Author's crazy with overtime. But I feel they're worth looking into.

I would like to say that I'm not that into raids, but that's not exactly true. I'm not big into organizing raids, but, joining them is cool. Gathering multiple teams together and timing the raid can be a hassle. Figuring out a way to make easier would be good. That being said, for RP, I don't think having a consistent time for a raid is a good idea either. "The Nagdellians attack every Thursday at 8:00PM CST". NOT! LOL!

There should probably be a spawns of raid material in the hazzard zone, though. Maybe have a giant monster spawn if there are enough heroes in the zone.

What I mainly like, is to be able to jump into a raid. Such as when a giant monster spawns and everyone can jump in to fight off the monster.

An idea for a raid would be, you get an alert that a Nagdellian invasion is coming and it's about 10 minutes away. That gives you 10 minutes to finish what you're doing and get ready.
Then, various alerts for the invading forces around the city:
ALERT!, Nagdellians invading under the Arch!
ALERT!, Nagdellians invading warehouse district!
ALERT!, Nagdellians invading at the hospital!
That can continue for about 30 minutes. Anyone can join the fight and the invasion mobs vary considering the number and level of heroes in the area.

1) Make the plan
2) Execute the plan
3) Expect the plan to go off the rails
4) Throw away the plan

This is where we would like to hear what you would really like to see in a big raid, like a Hami raid in CoH or a Worldboss fight in SWTOR, or any of the big raids in WOW for example.
