Like I said, it was a quick thought more than anything - one possible suggestion for "end game" content that was slightly different than pure alts.
Thanks you for making the suggestion and to everyone who commented. A challenge of creating an MMO is making it fun for different play styles without shortchanging other play styles. Also always at the center of our thoughts is avoiding creating situations where new players are at such disadvantage that their experience is not a positive one.
Please keep making suggestions and commenting on them. Even if they are not used as is, they can prompt other ideas or variations.

I put too much time, effort, and love into my max level character to ever kill him off. that being said, I will usually level up several characters over the years that I don't have that much love for and i might consider doing that with them... might...

Well please have a heart for all the roleplayers who will join the SoH community. They create characters, they create background stories, they level them to max level and they use them for endgame content. I don´t think they want to "kill" thier characters and start everything from scratch. I expect the community to have lots of ALTOHOLICS.
I would prefer the idea of looting or earning a special currency in endgame which could be used to push leveling of your fresh characters.
So, while I'm waiting for SoH I've recently started playing D&D online since it's one of the few MMOs with decent character power customisation.
They have a "reincarnation" system to provide a form of account-wide, long-term levelling. Once you hit level twenty you can reincarnate your character, keeping only the name while starting afresh with a new class, race and levelling choices. Each time you do (up to a limit) you get a bonus, based on the character you've just reincarnated from.
This encourages players to try different builds and characters, and provides a form of progression over a much longer time scale.
Now, heroes are known for having different people pick up the mantle of a previous hero, or otherwise get "rebooted".
It could be incredibly thematic to be able to do the same thing in SoH in some form, maybe gaining a previous power as a "free" power on the new character - un-enhanceable but the extra utility would definitely be useful after a few iterations.
Feel free to criticise or offer improvements, just a quick idea I had that I thought might be fun 😀
